Monday August 21, 2017 was a day for the record books. A day where history was made and individuals across the United States wanted to take part. A day where they put their lives on pause for a few brief moments. Why? Because there was a Solar Eclipse. Almost every single human being in its path stopped and gazed at this miracle as it sliced across the country.
I did not realize how big of a deal this solar eclipse really was. It was named "The Great American Eclipse". It was the first eclipse visible from coast to coast in the US in one hundred years. How cool is that? Leading up to this event the news anchors warned Americans to not look directly at the sun but to purchase solar glasses in order to protect their eyes. They offered tips and tricks to see it and located the best places along the continental US to witness this phenomenon.
I found the words of Eric Metals intriguing:
"What might be the odds of this just happening randomly? Almost all the planets in our solar system have no moons or many moons (Jupiter has 60) of incredibly varying sizes. So this sort of thing doesn’t happen anywhere else in our solar system. But our planet has just one moon that happens to be just the right size and just the right distance from Earth."
Woah. So many intricate details all have to line up perfectly in order for a solar eclipse to even occur. Is this a coincidence? Some would say yes. I think not. I believe this eclipse was the doing of my Heavenly Father. He created the earth, stars, sky and moons. Don't you think He can make a solar eclipse too? Some would say it is science. Some would say it is supernatural. But I would say it was the handiwork of God himself.
Psalm 19:1 says "“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
While everyone in the United States paused on Monday August 21, to look up at a blob in the sky, I thought to myself what if we always took time out of our day to look at the Son. Not the one in the sky but the One who placed it there.
Maybe you need a total eclipse of your heart. Maybe you have been bitter towards someone who you think doesn't deserve forgiveness. Maybe you are upset with a situation you are stuck in right now. Maybe you just have been hiding in the shadows of the Son and need step back into the light.
Guess what!? You do not need fancy glasses or to be in the perfect location to experience this Son. You can do it right now wherever you are. There is restoration and comfort, refreshment and revival with Jesus. He will restore your soul and breath new life into you.
Maybe today is the day. You do not have to wait for 2024 for the next eclipse to happen you can do it today! Is it time for you to join Bonnie Tyler and have a total eclipse of your heart?
